A water-thinnable Gunze acrylic paint in a sand yellow shade, ready for application with an airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sand yellow is a tone that nobody can do without who builds machines deployed in North Africa, the Middle East or southwestern Asia. The light yellow-brown cast serves as an overall desert finish and works just as well as the lighter patches sprayed over a darker base.
Acrysion is the water-thinnable acrylic line from Gunze for plastic models. According to the manufacturer it is intended for application with an airbrush and is not suitable for brushwork. The bottle has to be stirred thoroughly before work, because the pigment settles at the bottom.
Thinning and cleaning: it is thinned with water, and with Acrysion Thinner as required. For the nozzle, the needle and the cup of the airbrush there is Acrysion Tool Cleaner, which dissolves a dried film more reliably than water alone.
The label has a key of its own that is worth knowing. In the blue field above the name of the line, in a white frame, stands the number of the shade; in the middle of the white field is the name of the paint, to the left of it the gloss level (FLAT, GLOSS, SEMI-GLOSS or METALIC) and to the right the recommended use: PRIMARY for base tones, AIRCRAFT for airplanes, CAR for cars, TANK for armor, SHIP for ships and WEATHERING for weathering. On aircraft, armored vehicles and ships the country and the period in which the shade was worn tend to be added as well.
Light desert tones tend to be translucent in a thin layer, so it pays to spray them over a unified base and build the coverage up gradually. The reward is a smooth surface on which dry pastels and oil washes then hold.
