A saturated red with a high gloss

This bright red is lighter and more aggressive than the basic red from the same palette. It is made to hold a high gloss once dry, which destines it for car bodies, for motorcycles and for everything that is meant to look freshly polished on a model.

A high gloss is merciless toward the preparation of the surface, though. Every seam that was not sanded down, every speck of dust and every fingerprint is brought out under a glossy coat. It therefore pays to give sanding and dusting the model off more time than the spraying itself, because putting it right afterwards will be hard.

The road to a smooth surface

• sand the seams down with progressively finer abrasives
• apply a light base on which the red will gain saturation
• spray several thin coats instead of one generous one
• the finished gloss can still be polished once it has cured

The difference between the individual red shades in this line is interesting. They differ not only in tone but also in the way they dry and in the kind of subject the manufacturer intended them for. This variant clearly aims at the glossy surfaces of road vehicles.

Before spraying it pays to dust the model off with compressed air and go over it with a soft brush. Dust that clings to the surface just before the paint goes on gets worked into the coat and makes small bumps. On a glossy red there are then more than enough of them to see, and getting rid of them means sanding and spraying again from the start. A few minutes of preparation thus save a whole further spray session.
