A warm sand brown acrylic for desert hardware, wooden parts and dusty surfaces. It is thinned with water.

A yellow-brown tone lies exactly where desert sand passes into light earth. Modelers reach for it on the hardware of the North African battlefields, on dusty running gear and everywhere a surface is meant to read as parched and warmed through by the sun. It serves just as readily on wood: crates, deck planks, gun stocks and barrels all get a calm surface with no plastic look about it.
As a light base it is rewarding under dry pastels and oil washes, because it gives them something to settle on. On a large uniform area, apply it in thin passes so that the rivets and panel lines stay legible. As a covering coat on its own over dark plastic paint, on the other hand, it calls for patience and more coats.
The base is acrylic and works with water, so the smell of organic solvents is gone and you can flush the cup and the nozzle right after the work is done. Stir the contents of the bottle properly before you reach in, so that the pigment settled at the bottom goes back into the volume.
In the blue band above the name of the line, a white frame holds the number of the shade. Below it, a white field holds the name of the paint, to its left the gloss level and to its right the recommended use: a base tone, aircraft, cars, ground hardware, ships or weathering. Military shades usually also carry the country and the period.
A thin coat flashes off within minutes, but the full curing of the binder takes considerably longer, so apply masking tape over it only after a delay. Keep the bottle well closed and in a room where the temperature does not drop below freezing.
