DRYING RETARDER for ARTISTIC DENSE ACRYLIC COLOR

Drying Retarder for Artistic Dense acrylics

This is modeling chemistry, specifically a retarder, that is a product added to an acrylic paint so that it stays open and workable for longer. It is not a paint, it is not a thinner and it replaces neither of them. Acrylics dry quickly, which in figure painting is a drawback everywhere two shades have to be joined while still wet: faces, transitions on fabric, soft shadows on skin. A retarder lengthens that time and gives you the chance to blend the paint on a figure instead of having it set under your brush.

Use

• It is added to the paint in a small amount, not to water and not in place of a thinner.
• Start carefully and try the ratio out on a piece of plastic. Too much retarder softens the paint, lengthens curing to hours and the layer is then easy to damage.
• Its greatest benefit is with the wet-on-wet technique on faces and on smooth transitions, where one works with thin glazes.
• When working with a retarder, count on a longer time before the surface will take another layer or a varnish.
• Keep the bottle carefully closed, as the contents are water-based and evaporation changes their effectiveness.
• Use it with acrylic paints, not with enamel or lacquer paints.

Who the product is for

For figure painters working with a brush who want smooth transitions with no visible edges, and generally for anyone who works with acrylics in a warm or dry room, where the paint dries before they manage to blend it. For a beginner who is only mastering basic layering the product is not necessary.

The product is intended for modeling use. Keep it out of the reach of children, work in a well-ventilated area and avoid contact with the eyes. Close the bottle carefully after use.
