A detail set from the Russian manufacturer Temp Models in 1:72 scale, printed from photopolymer. The contents are the pod of an electronic warfare suite that the Su-30SM carries on its wingtips. The set fills out a finished kit and does not make up an aircraft model on its own.
According to the manufacturer, the Khibiny-U is the newest electronic warfare suite, meant to protect the aircraft against air-launched and anti-aircraft weapons. It works by locating the source of a hostile radar signal and sending back a distorted echo, so the defenses receive a false reading of the target's position. On the Su-30SM the pods are carried on the wingtips, where from a modeler's point of view they cannot be missed.
The parts are printed from photopolymer, so thin print supports are left on them. Cut them away with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch nippers and sand the pad they leave with fine abrasive paper. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue, because polystyrene cement has no effect on this material. Lay down a filler primer before painting; it will at the same time reveal any remains of the supports. Sanding is best done wet and with respiratory protection.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
