The coarsest grade of talus in a brown earth shade. A 353 cm3 package for boulder fields, rockfalls and collapsed banks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The largest grit in the whole range resembles what a detached block of rock leaves behind: irregular pieces of various sizes, with gaps and shadow between them. The brown tone matches rock long exposed to soil and running water, that is the foot of a wooded slope rather than a bare face high above the trees.
The Extra Coarse grade works where the eye is meant to catch on an individual stone: at the mouth of a culvert, around a pool, on the edge of a cutting or as protective riprap under a bridge pier. In larger scales it stands in for individual boulders, and in smaller ones it reads instead as a whole stone field.
The loose material comes to 353 cm3 and looks best when it is not used on its own. The largest pieces scattered about are completed with a finer grade, which fills the gaps between them, and the transition to the surrounding terrain is covered with grass grit. Typical tasks:
Brown stone in a forest never lies bare. Fallen needles hold between the blocks, tufts of grass grow in the lee and the north sides of the stones grow over with moss. A few small green accents set into the gaps will do more with a scattered area than an hour of shifting individual pieces, because it is precisely that contrast between dead stone and living growth that the eye reads as a real landscape.
