The AK Interactive product in a 250 ml package solves two problems that arise at the same time when building diorama buildings and terrain out of foam materials. First, the foam surface is either too smooth or, on the contrary, so grainy that in scale it looks out of place. Second, it is porous and absorbent, so without sealing it drinks up paint and some solvents even attack it. The compound applied creates a textured layer on the surface and seals it at the same time, so the painting that follows already takes place on a stable, non-absorbent base.
This material is not thinned to a sprayable consistency - the thickness is what carries the texture here, so all that is left of a compound thinned down with water is a tinted film with no relief. It is applied with a brush, a spatula or a sponge in such a thickness that the mark of the tool stays on the surface, because that is precisely what forms the resulting texture. A thicker application gives coarser plaster and a stony character; a thinner, spread-out one gives rather a smooth wall. Let the layer dry through properly in its whole thickness, not just on the surface - a compound that has not dried through moves under the paint and the texture cracks.
For builders of dioramas and models of buildings who make their terrain out of foam materials and want a surface that will take paint, washes and pigments. It is not a paint and not a glue, but an intermediate step between the rough build and the painting.
