Gray Violet — a Vallejo Model Air acrylic paint

Gray Violet is an acrylic from the Vallejo Model Air range. The name describes the shade exactly: a gray with a cool violet shift, that is a color that looks noticeably colder beside neutral grays and is used where an area should look airy and light. The binder is water-thinnable, the paint is thinned with the same brand's thinner for acrylics, and it comes in a 17 ml dropper bottle from which it is dispensed drop by drop.

A dropper bottle has two practical advantages: the paint does not evaporate, because you open the bottle only rarely, and you can measure mixing ratios in drops, so you can repeat them next time. It does pay to wipe the neck after every use, though, otherwise dried paint will glue the thread shut. Treat the airbrush with the same thoroughness. Acrylic paint washes out with water in a moment while it is fresh; dried in the needle and the nozzle it is considerably harder to remove and is the most common cause of an uneven spray pattern. When you have finished, rinse the cup, run acrylic cleaner through it and wipe the needle with a soft cloth working away from the tip. Wash brushes at once, in cold water, and never leave them standing on their bristles in a jar.
