Wheel set for the Su-30 1:32 from Temp Models

A resin 3D printed set replaces the landing gear wheels of a model of the Su-30 in 1:32 scale. The wheels show the deformation of the tire under the weight of the aircraft, so the model sits naturally on its surface. The set of the same name with the 3D suffix is cut for the 3D printed landing gear legs from Temp Models; this variant states no such tie.

The real subject

The Su-30 is a two-seat multirole aircraft derived from the heavy Su-27 fighter, built for long flights as well as for strikes against ground targets. Against the basic Su-27 it has a higher take-off weight, which shows in the load on the landing gear and in the settling of the tires. The nose leg carries a pair of wheels and the main legs retract into the fuselage. On a machine standing still the settling of the tires is distinct and it is one of the details that help a finished model the most.

Building and painting tips

First wash the 3D printed parts in warm water with a little dish soap, so that they are rid of the residue of printing resin. Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down with your airways protected. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a thin coat of primer on before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth print. Fit the weighted wheels so that the flattened part of the tire sits on the surface, otherwise the model does not stand naturally.
