A deep blue for bold areas and markings

This shade is not meant to be discreet. Bright blue comes into its own on the stripes of aerobatic teams, on the fuselages of civil aircraft, on the bodies of road vehicles, on sports accessories and everywhere an area should look colorful and clean at first glance.

For a deep tone to look the way it should, it needs a light base. The manufacturer therefore recommends unifying the surface of the model with a coat of Mr. Base White 1000 or with Mr. Surfacer 1000; only on a surface prepared this way does the paint give a bright and even shade, whereas on a dark or patchy base the result goes muddy and the individual layers show through.

• Stir the paint thoroughly before work

Deeply colored pigments cover less well than light ones, so expect several thin passes instead of one heavy layer. A layer put on in a single pass stays soft for a long time and is easily damaged during masking. Let the area set between individual layers and let the finished coat cure properly before you put tape or a decal on it.

If the area looks uneven once dry, the usual culprit is too high a pressure combined with paint that is too thin. Thin it only as far as the coat still covers, and make a test spray on scrap plastic rather than straight onto the model.
