A shade on the border of yellow and green

The tone sits exactly where a palette usually has a gap: a pure green from the bottle often comes across as too dark and a raw yellow as garish. Yellow-green fills the gap and is most often used as a transitional color, not as the main coat over a whole model. In kit building it is therefore used up in smaller doses, as an addition to a basic green and yellow.

Where a tone like this comes into its own

Light greens of this kind turn up on the inner surfaces of aircraft, on agricultural machinery and on tools and shipping crates. On a diorama it helps bring vegetation to life: young foliage, grass on a burnt-out slope and moss do not have one single color, and mixing yellow-green into a green blend does more for them than lightening with white, which turns the tone gray.

Thinning and application

The contents have to be mixed thoroughly before work, as the pigment settles to the bottom of the bottle. It can be thinned with water or with the maker's own thinner; the thinner gives a more even flow-out and a shorter drying time, while water is more suited to absorbent surfaces. On smooth plastic the thinner is the safer choice, because a mix that is too watery pulls together into droplets on the surface and leaves marks behind.

Volume and getting the most out of the paint

The bottle holds ten milliliters. Sprayed, that is enough for several medium-sized models, as long as the principle of thin coats is kept: several light passes give a smoother surface than one heavy coat, which floods the engraving and the fine detail. It pays to flush the remaining paint out of the nozzle before it dries, because cured acrylic resists water and the cleaning then drags on.
