Mr. Color - FS36495 světle šedá

Light gray to the federal standard FS36495

This light, cool neutral gray is among the shades with which the US Air Force and Navy covered the lower surfaces of fuselages and wings, trainers and transport types. On a model it also suits as an undercoat beneath light camouflage or as a starting tone for shading the panels later.

What the paint is built on

The Mr. Color range is a lacquer one, that is, based on organic solvents rather than on water. Hence its reputation: it dries within a few minutes and dries to a thin hard film that will take masking tape and later weathering work without damage. The bottle volume is ten milliliters.

Application

The manufacturer developed the paint for an airbrush. Anyone who wants to apply it with a brush has to add about a quarter of the volume in Mr. Retarder Mild, otherwise the strokes will dry before they can flow together. Adjust the consistency with Mr. Color Thinner or its Leveling version, in a range from one to one up to two parts paint to one part thinner. The contents have to be stirred thoroughly every time you use them, as settled pigment shifts the shade noticeably.

Recommended procedure

Before spraying it pays to unify the surface of the model with Mr. Base White 1000 or with Mr. Surfacer spray putty. With a tone this light that goes double, because dark plastic or gray filler showing through will muddy the result. The degree of sheen can be tuned with a matte base from the same range.

Where else the shade will serve

A light neutral gray is rewarding outside aircraft models as well. It fits modern military equipment, airfield vehicles and serves as a starting tone for missiles and underwing stores. Anyone who mixes their own shades will appreciate it as a base with which more saturated grays can be brightened without a warm cast of white getting into them.
