A metallic red from the classic Japanese lacquer range. It dries quickly, forms a durable film and is best applied with an airbrush.

This shade belongs to a classic Japanese line which, despite being grouped with modeling paints, is not thinnable with water. The binder is lacquer based and solvent based, and it is thinned with the matching lacquer thinner from the same brand. That is exactly why it dries in a few minutes, holds even on smooth plastic and on metal and takes subsequent masking without trouble, without tearing when the tape is lifted.
The red pigment is complemented by very fine metal particles that catch the light and change the shade with the viewing angle. It looks best sprayed onto a dark or a silver base, where it gains a depth reminiscent of the paintwork on motorcycles and racing cars. It is harder to work with a brush, because the particles tend to line up in the direction of the stroke and the area is then not uniform.
Work in a well-ventilated room and put on a respirator, since the solvent vapors are not harmless. The pigment settles at the bottom, so stir the contents into a uniform color before every pour. Flush the residue out of the gun immediately after spraying, because dried lacquer comes out of a nozzle only with great difficulty.
If you leave the result in its original gloss, the shade suits sports car bodies and motorcycle tanks. If instead you overcoat it with a matte varnish and add a dark wash, it turns into a convincingly worn finish on a mechanical part. One bottle therefore covers two completely different approaches to a build.
