The real subject

The Fairey Firefly was a British two-seat carrier aircraft that flew fighter as well as reconnaissance duties with the Fleet Air Arm. It entered service during the Second World War and in its later versions it served for many years afterwards, among other places over Korea. Its long fuselage with two separate cockpits, its wing with outer panels that folded for the hangars of aircraft carriers and its liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Griffon V12 engine stand out. The main armament was four 20mm cannon in the wing.

Building and painting tips

Dry-fit the parts first, above all the joint of the fuselage with the wing and the installation of the two cockpits. The inside is clearly visible through the extensive glazing, so it pays to spend time on it before the fuselage is closed. Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss surface and, once dry, coat them with a matte varnish.
