Shaped masks for the glazing and other surfaces of a 1:72 model of the American M-ATV armored vehicle. By sticking a template on and spraying over it, the window frames come out sharp and straight, which in such a small scale is practically impossible to do by hand with a brush. The time and nerves saved are the main reason masks are bought.
The M-ATV is an American off-road armored vehicle of the MRAP category, which came about because of deployment in Afghan terrain, where large and heavy wheeled carriers were too unwieldy. It has a deeply shaped hull floor that disperses the blast wave of an explosion, independent suspension on all wheels, and on top there is usually a circular protective ring for the gunner. It entered service in the late 2000s and spread quickly.
The surface has to be clean and degreased, or the template will not seat. Place the mask with tweezers, press it down with a toothpick all the way around and apply the paint in several thin layers. A single thick layer will run under the edge and spoil the work. Take the template off while the paint has only just flashed off; once it has cured fully, you can tear the coat off along with it.
