A mirror silver for the airbrush only

A metallic shade under the name Mirror Silver. Its name states expressly that it is meant for the airbrush only. That is not a marketing note: paints with a metal pigment this fine are dragged into streaks by a brush and the very effect they are bought for is lost. The aim is a surface that shines like polished metal, not an ordinary silver area.

What the mirror effect depends on

The surface underneath is what decides. The metal pigment copies whatever it lies on, so on a rough or matte surface all that will be left is a gray area, however glossy. Under this shade, therefore, the surface is first sanded smooth and laid down in a gloss color; the usual choice is a smooth gloss black base, on which the silver reads deepest. Every grain of dust and every scratch shows through the finished coat.

How to apply the paint

• Apply it very thinly and in several passes; a heavy coat kills the effect.
• Keep the pressure lower and move the airbrush smoothly, so that the pigment does not settle unevenly.
• Do not sand or wipe the dried surfaces again, as a metal finish goes matte easily.
• Any clear coat over it often dulls the mirror gloss; try it on a test piece first.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging for thinning, pressure and cleaning the airbrush.

Terms of supply

The paint alone is supplied. Thinner, primer, clear coat and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room and store the bottle carefully closed and out of the reach of children.
