Scribing and forming block (U-STAR)

A metal aid for scribing and forming that complements a scribing tool. Grooves and edges are worked into the block, along which regular structures of the kind usually handled with photo-etched parts can be scribed into the surface of a part, that is repeating scored lines, lines and patterns, and at the same time it serves as a firm support when bending and forming thin sheet metal or photo-etched strips. The block has an elongated shape, about 14 centimeters long and a little over 2 centimeters wide. The package holds two pieces.

• guiding a scribing tool when creating regular lines and repeating patterns
• imitating structures that are otherwise handled with photo-etched parts

• work on aircraft and ship models, where patterns repeat over a large area
• a firm metal surface that neither gives way nor cuts through under the pressure of a tool

Who it is for

For advanced modelers who make their own surface details and do not want to rely only on ready-made sets of parts. Working with the block calls for practice, and it is a good idea to try a pattern on an offcut of plastic before you start on the model itself.

Scribe in several light strokes rather than one heavy one, because the scored line then stays straight and does not jump. Wipe the plastic shavings off the tool and the block after work, otherwise they will be carried into the next scored line.
