Working with the blade

In modeling work a sharp blade is safer than a blunt one. The edge leads the cut itself, so the tool needs only light pressure and it is better to go over the mark several times than to force it in one strong pass. A blunt edge skates over the surface and tears the material instead of parting it, which is the commonest cause of both ruined parts and cut fingers. That is why blades are bought as replaceable items and changed at the first sign of going blunt.

Care and safety

Always cut away from your body and on a mat, not on the table top. Protect the edge from striking a hard surface and from damp, so that it does not corrode. Store used blades where children cannot reach them, and put them away wrapped, not loose among the tools. Wipe off glue residue while it is still fresh.
