Factory staff on the midday break

A factory area is most alive at the moment when no work is going on in it. One of the workers is resting, a second has sat down on a crate and is eating a sandwich, a third carries a lunch pail and a hard hat in his hand. The last holds his hard hat under his arm while talking to a colleague and to a supervisor.

The conversation of three figures is the most valuable element of the whole set. A small group in which two people look at a third can replace a whole story on a layout, and at the same time it is easy to set out: the shoulders only have to point into the circle and a gap of roughly one model's handspan has to be left between the figures.

The hard hats and the lunch pail place the scene in the heavy industry of the twentieth century. The space by a gatehouse, a loading ramp, a yard between halls or a spot by a siding standing idle, along which raw material was brought into the works, all match it.

The crate one of the figures sits on is, according to the manufacturer, part of the scene. A scene can be built around it literally: a couple more crates beside it and the break gains a reason why it is taking place exactly where it stands.

The castings are made for HO size, that is for a scale of 1:87. The usual halls, cranes and cars on layouts of this type are in the same size. The figures therefore fit in among industrial buildings from other brands too.

A hard hat carried under the arm also gives away one extra small thing: the figure is at this moment outside the area where head protection is compulsory. That is exactly why you should place it on the board rather to one side of the working machinery.
