About product

Faded White - AK Interactive Oil Paint, 20 ml

A faded white oil paint from the Abteilung 502 oil range (AK Interactive), supplied in a tube with a volume of 20 ml. Made from finely ground pigments, with a lower binder content - it dries to a flatter, natural look. This is a modeling paint intended for weathering and effects, not a kit - you do not get parts but the paint with which you finish a model.

The essential property of oil is that it dries very slowly, over a matter of days. That is not a shortcoming but the main advantage: the paint can be blended, softly diffused and its transitions fine-tuned for tens of minutes. Nothing dries under your hand. It is thinned and blended with odorless thinner or mineral spirits, never with water.

Use

  • Picking out edges and raised detail - a light line on an edge draws the shape out and adds relief to the model.
  • Surfaces faded by the sun - a blended patch in the middle of a large area imitates a surface faded by long exposure outdoors.
  • Dust and lightening - a gentle blend into recesses and onto horizontal surfaces as settled light dust.
  • Dry brush - a brush wiped almost clean, with which edges and rivets are lightly passed over.

With white this matters in particular: a pure, raw white looks unnatural and plastic on a model. A real white surface is always a little worn. A faded white therefore looks more realistic than a white straight from the can.

A practical tip: oil in a tube exudes binder. Squeeze a drop onto cardboard, let it be drawn off for a while and only then pick it up with a brush - the paint then holds better and does not leave greasy shiny edges.

It is always applied to a cured varnished surface (ideally a gloss or satin varnish), which takes the oil and the thinner without trouble and lets the excess be wiped away without damaging the paint underneath.

Who It Is For

For modelers who want to move a finished paint job from flat to alive - weathering vehicles, aircraft, ships, figures, dioramas and science fiction models. Suitable for beginners too - the slow drying forgives mistakes: until the oil is dry it can be drawn back off.

Safety: it contains an oil binder and is used with solvents (odorless thinner, mineral spirits). Work in a well-ventilated space, protect your skin, avoid contact with the eyes and keep out of the reach of children. Solvents are flammable - do not use near open flame.

FAQ

No. It is an oil paint for effects and weathering, not a covering base coat. It is applied in thin, blended layers on a model that is already painted and varnished. For a white over a whole area use an acrylic, an enamel or a lacquer.

It is thinned and blended with odorless thinner or mineral spirits, never with water. It dries very slowly, usually over several days - which is why it can be blended and fine-tuned for a long time, but you have to wait for it to cure fully before further coats.

Oil from a tube exudes excess binder. When you squeeze a drop onto cardboard and let it be drawn off for a while, what is left is more concentrated pigment: the paint then leaves no greasy shiny edges and holds better on the surface.

To a fully cured surface, ideally varnished with a gloss or satin varnish. That takes the thinner and lets the excess oil be wiped away without damaging the paint underneath.
