What it IS and what it is NOT

Flat Base is NOT a paint or a lacquer to be applied on its own and it has no covering power. It is a flattening additive that is mixed in a small amount into a gloss or semi-gloss paint and lowers its sheen. The recommended dose is roughly up to 10 percent of the volume of the paint, according to the degree of flattening you want. A larger dose flattens more, but an excessive amount can lighten the surface or leave it dusty.

Use

• Mixing into a gloss lacquer paint to achieve a matte or semi-gloss surface.
• Fine-tuning the degree of sheen without changing the shade of the paint.
• Bringing the sheen of several shades into a uniform matte appearance.

Who it is for

For modelers who work with Mr.Paint lacquer paints and want to control the resulting degree of sheen themselves. It is not suitable as a paint on its own, nor as a final matte varnish applied directly to a model.

A lacquer-based additive is flammable and contains solvents. Work in a well-ventilated space, away from flame and out of the reach of children, and stir thoroughly before use.
