A set of four acrylic shades for the machines of the Marineflieger, matched to FS standards.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Marineflieger came about at the end of the 1950s as the air arm of the West German Navy, and its main task was the defense of the Baltic and the North Sea. The Hawker Sea Hawk, the anti-submarine Fairey Gannet, the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, the Breguet Atlantic patrol aircraft and finally the Tornado IDS armed with anti-ship missiles passed through it in turn. It was the naval Tornado that gave the force the look most modelers will recall first.
The set is deliberately narrow: it contains light gray FS-36622, dark gray FS-36152, naval blue FS-25042 and the green tone FS-34086. The reference to the American Federal Standard has a practical reason — FS numbers make it possible to identify a shade unambiguously regardless of what designation the aircraft manufacturer used, and a modeler can compare the paint against any color chart by them.
The acrylics are thinned with water or with the matching thinner and are built mainly for an airbrush. On aircraft models it works well to apply two or three very thin layers: gray shades tend toward a milky haze if they are laid on too heavily at once. The boundaries between gray areas were sharp on the real aircraft, so they are masked with tape, while the green tone is used rather on smaller areas and details.
The dividing lines between gray fields were sharp and straight on the real machines, so it pays to invest time in good masking tape and to let the layer beneath dry thoroughly. Laying tape over acrylic that is still soft is the most common reason a piece of the coat comes away with the surface beneath it when the tape is peeled off.
The package consists of four bottles and nothing else.
