About product

Interior Bronze-Green — Mr.Paint Acrylic Modeling Paint, Aqua Range

A dark bronze green for the interiors of American Second World War aircraft. The manufacturer Mr.Paint itself classifies this shade among American aviation colors — even though the term bronze green is also used for other air forces. It belongs to the water-thinnable acrylic Aqua range and is a modeling paint, not a kit.

Watch out for mixing up the ranges. Mr.Paint is known above all for its lacquer (nitro) range and lists the same shade names in both ranges — so the name alone will not tell them apart. This paint is from the acrylic Aqua range: it is thinned with water or the same manufacturer's Aqua acrylic thinner, not with nitro thinner. Acrylic is gentler on plastic and nearly odorless to work with.

Bronze-Green or Dark Dull Green? Do Not Mix Them Up

The manufacturer's same range also has the shade Interior Dark Dull Green, along with Interior Green ANA 611 and a zinc-chromate primer. All are American interior colors, but they belong to different periods: bronze green is the earlier one, replaced in production during the war by a dark, muted green, with the later standard becoming interior green ANA 611. They are therefore not variants of the same shade, but successive stages of development — choose based on which aircraft and which period you are building, and follow your kit's instructions.

Use

  • Cockpits, cockpit tubs, instrument panels and interior parts of American aircraft from the early part of the Second World War.
  • Sprayed with an airbrush or applied with a brush; adjust the consistency with water or Aqua acrylic thinner.
  • Apply in thin coats over a cured primer — dark green shades then cover best.
  • The interior stands out well once dry with a dark wash into recesses and dry-brushing on edges.

Who the Paint Is For

For builders of American Second World War aircraft who want a period-correct interior and do not want to reach for the later interior green. Thanks to its water-thinnable formula, it also suits modelers who avoid lacquer paints.

A modeling paint, not a kit. A water-thinnable acrylic is gentler to work with than lacquer ranges, but ventilate and do not inhale the aerosol when airbrushing. Keep out of the reach of children. Shake the paint thoroughly before use.

FAQ

The manufacturer classifies it itself among American colors for Second World War aircraft. The term bronze green is also used elsewhere, but for this specific paint the national assignment is American.

Both are American interior greens, but from different periods. Bronze green is the earlier one; it was replaced in production during the war by a dark, muted green, and later the standard became interior green ANA 611. Choose based on the type and period of the aircraft you are building.

A water-thinnable acrylic from the Aqua range. Mr.Paint lists the same shade names in its lacquer (nitro) range too — this one is thinned with water or Aqua acrylic thinner, never with nitro thinner.

The Aqua range is made to spray practically straight from the bottle; depending on your airbrush and pressure, you can adjust it with water or Aqua acrylic thinner. Always test spray on a sample area first.
