About product

Quickboost 1:72 - Machine Gun Barrels for the Avro Lancaster

This is a resin detail part for more experienced modelers, not an aircraft model. Accurately cast barrels of the defensive machine guns replace the soft and dimensionally inaccurate plastic parts from a kit of the British Avro Lancaster bomber in 1:72 scale. The resin rendering has a sharper profile of the muzzle and a more faithful detail than injection-molded plastic, which bends easily. The part is made by the Czech brand Quickboost (Aires).

The real subject

The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy night bomber of the Royal Air Force in the Second World War, powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines. It was among the main instruments of the strategic bombing of Germany and became famous among other things for the raid on the German dams. The defense was provided by machine guns in rotating turrets in the nose, on the back and in the tail, and this set sharpens their barrels.

Fitting tips

First wash the part in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release residue from the mold disappears. Separate the thin barrels carefully from the casting block with a sharp knife, clean the surface up and glue them in with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways with a respirator when sanding resin. For fidelity, the muzzles of the barrels can be drilled out finely with a micro drill.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Lancaster in 1:72 scale who care about the armament
  • More experienced modelers used to working with resin
  • Modelers who prefer sharp cast barrels to soft plastic
  • Collectors who want to refine the detail of a mass-produced kit

An accessory for a plastic kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. These are resin machine gun barrels with which you replace the plastic parts of the defensive armament on a Lancaster model. The kit has to be bought separately.

Cast barrels have a sharper and more faithful profile of the muzzle and are not as prone to bending as thin injection-molded plastic.

Wash them free of mold release agent, separate them carefully from the casting block, clean the surface up and glue them in with super glue. The muzzles can be drilled out finely with a micro drill.
