What a liquid pigment is

A liquid pigment brings together two things a modeler otherwise mixes himself: fine powder pigment and the binder it is mixed into. In this product the binder is an enamel base, that is a carrier that thins with mineral spirits. That does away with measuring out powder and looking for the right ratio, and the deposit can be laid straight from the bottle. Once dry a flat, slightly grainy surface remains, which reads as settled dirt and not as sprayed paint.

The Greenskin Soil shade

The name of the shade points to an earthy tone with a greenish cast. A shade like this suits places where the ground is meant to be damp and overgrown: on figure bases, on the lower runs of tracks and on vehicle fenders, into the joints between paving stones or at the edges of water surfaces in a diorama. It sits well with brown and ocher tones, with which it can be layered into a smooth transition from a dry dusty area to an overgrown corner.

How it is applied

Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles at the bottom when left alone. Apply it with a soft brush to a surface that is dry and best covered with a protective coat of varnish, because enamel carriers can bite into unprotected paint beneath them. Until the deposit dries it can be worked out, knocked back or partly taken off with a brush moistened with mineral spirits, so you have the degree of dirtying under control. Work in thin layers and let them dry through.
