Aber – hand wheels (first selection) is a photo-etched set of control wheels for valves, shut-offs and watertight doors for models in various scales. It is an accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set from the Polish manufacturer Aber contains hand wheels, that is, the small star-shaped and spoked discs with which valves, pipe shut-offs, watertight doors and hatches are opened. The fret carries wheels in several diameters and with various numbers of spokes, so the set is not tied to a single scale and you will use it on ships, on military vehicles and in dioramas with industrial features. The designation first selection refers to the first set of a continuing line.
A wheel is a detail that can hardly be molded faithfully in plastic; the spokes come out too thick and the gaps between them tend to be blind. Etched sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick gives the wheel the right proportion and, above all, real openings between the spokes, which bring the detail to life. The wheels also serve to cover places where you have cut off a coarse plastic part, and to build your own fittings from photographs.
Cut the parts off with a scalpel or photo-etch shears against a hard surface. If you want to give a wheel volume, on the larger diameters you can double two pieces one over the other or add a piece of wire in the middle as a hub. It is bonded with super glue applied with a pin, or soldered with tin where it is combined with brass wire. Degrease the brass before painting and use a metal primer. On real equipment the wheels are often a different color from their surroundings, and a splash of color does a model good.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
