Interior Grey-Green

What the color is for

Interior Grey-Green is a subdued gray-green, a tone from the family of shades that appeared on the interior surfaces of cockpits. It is used on the floor, on the cockpit side walls, on the seat frames and on the inside of covers. The item name, however, does not say which air force or aircraft manufacturer the shade belongs to, and there is more than one gray-green interior tone, so compare it against the documentation for the machine you are building before you spray.

Thinning and application

Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before use; settled pigment will otherwise shift both the tone and the coverage. The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging, so keep to those instructions. Apply thin coats: a single heavy coat floods the riveting and the fine relief that make the whole impression in a cockpit. Let the surface flash off between coats and let the finished paint cure properly before you touch it with tape or tweezers.

Interior painting tips

Paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage halves; on a finished model you can hardly reach it. The interior ends up in shadow, so it pays to lighten the base tone slightly, otherwise the cockpit will merge into black under a closed canopy. Bring out the relief of the instruments and the fittings with a dark wash in the recesses and go lightly over the edges with a dry brush. Only then glue in the small accessories and the belts.
