About product

AK interactive Interior Yellow Green, 17 ml — Acrylic Modeling Paint

Interior Yellow Green is an acrylic paint for modelers from the 3rd Generation range by AK interactive in a 17 ml dropper bottle. It is a modeling paint, not a kit. The binder is acrylic, that is, water-thinnable: high pigmentation, good coverage, fast drying to a matte finish, usable with both brush and airbrush.

The name interior yellow-green points to one specific thing — the shade of the interior spaces of American Second World War aircraft. American airframes were treated on the inside with an anti-corrosion zinc chromate coating, and it was exactly this coating that gave cockpits, bulkheads, landing gear bays and the inner surfaces of wings their characteristic yellow-green color. For a modeler, this is the typical interior of American aircraft from this period: not very saturated, rather a pale yellow-green tone that does not appear anywhere else on the aircraft.

Use

  • Cockpits and interiors of American Second World War aircraft — seats, bulkheads, frames, the side walls of the cockpit.
  • Landing gear bays and the inner surfaces of covers — the spots where the zinc chromate coating shows best on a model.
  • The inner sides of doors, engine covers and unclad structural parts.
  • A base for weathering — dark washes, chips and worn metal stand out well against the light yellow-green tone.

Thinning and application

Thinned with water or AK's acrylic thinner for the 3rd Generation range — never with lacquer thinner. Shake before use. Interiors are usually sprayed with an airbrush once thinned to a milky consistency, with small parts and details finished by brush. Since an interior tends to be dark and poorly lit, it pays to lighten the shade slightly on edges and pull a dark wash into recesses — otherwise it gets lost in a finished cockpit.

Who the paint is for

Mainly for aircraft modelers building American Second World War subjects who want the interior in the correct tone. It will also serve figure painters and diorama builders as an unusual muted yellow-green.

An acrylic modeling paint. When spraying with an airbrush, ensure adequate ventilation and protect your airways. Keep out of the reach of children.
