The Tiger II was a German heavy tank of the Second World War, listed in period terminology under the designation Sd.Kfz. 182. It was built with two forms of turret. The earlier of them, known as the Porsche turret, had a rounded front and sides with a pronounced kink; the later production turret was simpler in shape and had a flat front. The main armament was a long 88 mm gun. The difference between the two turrets is the most striking recognition feature of the two variants and also determines which accessories will fit a model.
With vehicles of this type it pays to finish the running gear and the interior first, and only then to close the hull up. Install the photo-etched and fine parts in order from the least accessible places. Degrease the metal with alcohol and lay on a thin primer. Once the base color is painted, washes into the recesses come next, and pigments for mud and dust effects last; apply the pigment in layers and remove the excess with a soft brush. The tracks and the lower part of the hull deserve the most work, because that is where the weathering shows most.
