Kyoto Gosho Shishin-den is a plastic kit of the main ceremonial hall of the Kyoto Imperial Palace from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi.

An injection-molded plastic kit of historic Japanese architecture, not of a vehicle or a ship. It belongs to the range of buildings that the Japanese firm Fujimi puts out alongside its car and ship models. The subject is the Shishinden, the main ceremonial hall of the Kyoto Imperial Palace precinct. The name of the product does not give the scale; you will find it on the box. The number of parts and the dimensions of the assembled model are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Kyoto Imperial Palace was for centuries the seat of the Japanese imperial court, before the court moved to Tokyo. The Shishinden is its most representative building, where the most important court ceremonies including the accession to the throne took place. The structure is done in the traditional palace style with an open plan, a wooden load-bearing structure and a massive roof covered in layered cypress bark, which gives it softly rounded edges. In front of the hall stretches the white gravel surface of the courtyard, on either side of which stand two famous trees, a cherry and a tachibana citrus. Today's building is a 19th century reconstruction carried out after older models.
Assemble the structure dry first and check that the base stands level, otherwise a deviation will show on the roof. Paint the load-bearing wooden elements and let them dry before you close up the roof surfaces. Cypress roofing has a matte, slightly absorbent surface, so muted gray-brown shades and a light dry brush on the edges suit it rather than sharp contrast. The white gravel courtyard can be imitated with fine sand or modeling gravel stuck down with thinned white glue. Finish the whole with a matte coat; gloss would be distracting on this building.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
