Rust FS30152 on camouflaged vehicles

A rust shade is what takes the factory perfection away from a camouflage scheme on ground vehicles. Rust does not appear at random: it forms where the finish has gone and the metal has been left exposed, that is, on the edges of hatches, around welds, on the exhaust piping, on the edges of fenders, on the tool clamps and on the lower parts that took the worst from the terrain. Placement decides the believability far more than the shade itself. The name gives the number of the American Federal Standard color standard, FS30152, and the matte degree of sheen.

How to set rust into a scheme

• Work on finished camouflage, not under it. Rust belongs above the color fields, because it formed later than the finish.
• Apply it in small irregular patches, not in a continuous band. Continuous rust looks painted on.
• Watch the direction of the runs. Rust traces go down the surface, not across it.
• At the boundary of two camouflage fields, rust splendidly breaks up too regular an edge left by a mask.
