Leather is a brown shade in the color of tanned hide from the Quick Gen Color acrylic range by AK Interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic for figures and gaming models. The shade aims exactly where its name sends it: belts, straps, satchels, scabbards, boots, saddles and shield bindings. On a figure these are typically small areas painted with a brush with a good point.
The leather parts of a figure are among the things a player touches most often during play, so a protective coat of varnish makes sense. The question is when. Varnish laid over an acrylic that has not yet cured seals moisture underneath it, and the result tends to be a hazy, soft or tacky surface that will not right itself. The safe procedure is to let the finished figure rest until the next day, only then varnish it, and to varnish it in thin coats. The order matters too: a matte varnish goes over a gloss one, but attempts to put gloss back over a matte coat tend to end in an unsightly surface. After varnishing, count on a further delay before the figure goes into its transport box, otherwise the foam will leave its imprint on it.
For figure modelers and players who need a dependable base leather shade, and for painting small leather items on dioramas.
Keep the pot tightly closed and dry. Do not pour leftovers down the drain; let them dry and dispose of them with solid waste.
