An injection-molded plastic kit of the mechanical drum after a design by Leonardo da Vinci from Italeri. The model belongs to the range devoted to the inventions of the Renaissance master; the finished product measures roughly 22.5 cm. The parts tend to be tinted to look like wood, so the model can be built without painting as well.
The mechanical drum is one of Leonardo's designs for automated musical and moving mechanisms. As the cart moved, a gear drive worked the drumsticks, which beat time by themselves. The design shows Leonardo's interest in gearing, cams and turning motion into useful work.
The build is educational and clear. Assemble the moving mechanisms and the gearing carefully and do not overload them with glue, so that they stay working. Thanks to the wood imitation the model looks good unpainted as well; the structure can be brought out with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
