AK Interactive Light Blue weathering pencil

A weathering pencil from the Spanish brand AK Interactive with a water-soluble, heavily pigmented lead in a wooden casing. The lead is less greasy than ordinary watercolor pencils, holds on matte varnish and can be blended out with water at any time. The light blue shade serves for lightening surfaces, for suggesting fading and for cold highlights.

Use

  • Dry: picking out edges and upper surfaces, cold highlights, a suggestion of fading from the sun.
  • Wet: a moistened pencil or blending with a damp brush gives an effect similar to thin filters.
  • Apply it onto a matte surface, ideally with distilled water; a finished effect can be washed off with a brush and water and started again.
  • It blends with a brush, a cotton swab or a finger into soft transitions.

For modelers who want to brighten surfaces and bring in cold highlights without mixing paints. It suits aircraft, vehicles, figures and dioramas.

A water-soluble pigment, nontoxic. Do not leave the pencil soaking in water, the wooden casing would swell. Keep out of the reach of small children.

FAQ

It is water-soluble. It is drawn dry, or moistened and blended with a damp brush. It works best with distilled water.

It holds best on matte varnish. On a gloss surface the pigment grips poorly and blends less well.

It is used for lightening upper surfaces, for cold highlights and for suggesting a surface faded by the sun.
