Light Brown - AK interactive 3rd Generation acrylic paint

A bottled acrylic with a water-thinnable binder. Light brown is one of the most used colors in the modeling palette, because it is a starting point for a great many materials: the leather of straps, belts and the boots of figures, lighter wood on crates, decks and handles, cardboard packaging and boxes in a diorama, and the thin layer of dust on running gear and the undersides of vehicles.

Which surfaces it belongs on and how it behaves

Lighter brown tones are easily lost over a dark base and look muddy - a light gray or sandy base belongs under them. On the other hand they serve excellently as a lightening component: mixed into a dark brown they bring out edges and raised areas, so they can be used for modulating surfaces instead of white, which always bleaches a color toward the cool side. On wood apply it unevenly and add a darker brown glaze for the grain. Mix it only with acrylics of the same range.

Spraying with an airbrush

• For modulating surfaces, spray from above and only on the places light would fall on - thin the paint heavily for this so that the coats stay transparent.
• A soft edge comes from a greater distance and lower pressure, a sharp one from moving closer.
• If you want a crisp border, mask only over a fully dry coat, otherwise the tape will pull the paint off.
• Around masking tape, spray from the outside inwards so that the paint does not run under the edge.
• Flush the airbrush after work while it is still wet; dried acrylic in the needle is much harder to clean.
