LIGHT GHOST GREY FS 36375 – AIR

Light Ghost Grey FS 36375, AIR (AK interactive)

Light Ghost Grey FS 36375, AIR is an AK interactive modeling acrylic paint from the 3rd Generation acrylic range, the AIR sub-range for aircraft models. It is a water-thinnable acrylic for brush and airbrush that is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner, not with cellulose thinner. It is not a kit but a paint in a bottle in its own right.

What the color represents

Light Ghost Grey is the light gray of the modern low-visibility scheme of American combat aircraft. Colorful camouflage on jets was replaced by exactly these inconspicuous grays, which are meant to break up the silhouette of an aircraft against the sky and against the ground alike. The scheme is two-tone: the darker gray goes on the upper surfaces and the lighter Light Ghost Grey on the lower and side surfaces. The code FS 36375 refers to the American Federal Standard, in which the first digit 3 denotes a matte finish.

Careful: without the darker counterpart gray you will not put the scheme together. Light Ghost Grey is always only one half of a pair; to finish you also need the darker Dark Ghost Grey. If you are buying only this bottle, count on the fact that on its own it will not paint the whole model.

Use and tips

• A water-thinnable acrylic for brush and airbrush; thin it for an airbrush and shake it before use.
• Apply it over a primer in thin coats, as light grays are prone to patchiness and uneven coverage.
• On modern aircraft the transition between the darker and the lighter gray tends to be sharp, not blurred, so use masking tape rather than free spraying.
• Spray gloss varnish under decals and matte varnish once they have dried, as a low-visibility scheme is meant to be matte.
• Once dry the paint will take washes and oil techniques, so you can pick out panel lines with no risk of dissolving the base.

Who the paint is for

For modelers of modern American combat aircraft, that is, of jets in gray low-visibility camouflage. Suitable for building out of the box and for collectors who need to top up or touch up a color.

A modeling paint for modeling use, not a toy and not a kit. Keep out of the reach of children, work in a ventilated room and use a respirator and eye protection when spraying with an airbrush. Do not pour paint residues down the drain.
