About product

The color

A modeling paint of the Hataka brand from the Orange Line. The shade carries the name Light Grey, that is, a light gray, and the designation RLM 63. RLM is the German system of aircraft color shades of the 1930s and 1940s, in which every shade had a two-digit number. Modelers still refer to it today, because period schemes and the color sheets of kits are described by it.

How to apply the paint

Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom and unstirred paint gives a different tone and a different surface. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer instructions on the packaging, that is, always the thinner intended for this line. Spray in thin coats and let them flash off between each other, as one heavy coat floods the engraving and rounds the edges over. Wash, degrease and prime the surface beforehand.

Stay within one line

Shades designated by an RLM number differ from one paint maker to another, because each starts from a different period chart and a different reading of it. The difference between two brands tends to show more on a model than the difference between two neighboring numbers. If you are building a scheme of several shades, therefore, take them all from one line of one maker. Judge the shade on a dried test sample as well, not by the color in the bottle.

It is a shade number in the German system of aircraft colors of the 1930s and 1940s. Period schemes are described by it.

Every maker starts from a different period chart. That is why it pays to take all the shades of one scheme from the same line.

The volume is not given in the name; you will find it in the manufacturer data on the packaging.
