Light Leather - Quick Gen Color

Light Leather is the light end of the leather tones in the Quick Gen Color acrylic range by AK Interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic for figures and gaming models. The shade matches light, not fully tanned leather and it is used in two ways: as a paint in its own right on light straps, bags and boots, or as a lightening coat over a darker leather base, which brings out the edges and the folds.

Curing before the figure goes into use

A figure meant for the gaming table lives a different life from a model in a display case. More hands pick it up, it travels in a case and it gets put down on a table, so the durability of the paint is not an academic question. An acrylic film is dry to the touch within a few minutes, but it reaches its final hardness gradually over a longer period, on the order of days. Before a figure goes into play for the first time, it is worth giving it that extra time, otherwise it carries the first fingerprints away from the very first evening. The same goes for packing into foam: a soft, immature film takes an impression of the foam structure and the mark does not go away again. If you are in a hurry, the best compromise is to seal the paint with a protective varnish, but that too needs its own drying time, so the waiting is only moved elsewhere.

Use

• It is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner, not with lacquer thinner.
• Use it on its own or as a lightening coat over a darker leather base.
• Before the figure goes into normal use, let the paint mature, not merely dry.
• Do not store an immature coat in foam, the structure will be pressed into it.
