A metallic gray shade from the Tamiya LP lacquer range. The designation LP-61 is the manufacturer's shade number, so you can easily order the same tone again when you come to finish a part-built job. Metallic paints hold a fine metal pigment in suspension and a spray finish behaves differently than with a flat covering paint: the thickness of the coat and the smoothness of the undercoat matter far more.
Metallic shades are merciless toward scratches, sandpaper marks and fingerprints. First sand the surface smooth, then wash and degrease it. On a smooth, even undercoat the spray finish looks like metal; on a rough one it looks like an ordinary gray with glitter. It also pays to make a test spray on an offcut, because the paint in the bottle and the paint on the model look different every time.
Shake the bottle well before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Thin the paint with the lacquer thinner of the same brand and spray it in several thin coats, letting the surface set between them. A lacquer paint dries quickly, which is an advantage when spraying but rather a hindrance when working with a brush, because the individual strokes do not have time to merge. Flush the airbrush immediately after finishing work, as dried metal pigment is considerably harder to remove.
The package holds the paint. Thinner, an airbrush, brushes and other modeling aids are not included, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well ventilated room, protect your airways and store the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
