A clear blue from the LP range of the Tamiya brand, listed under the designation LP-68 Clear Blue. It does not cover like an ordinary paint but tints what is underneath. The resulting tone therefore always depends on what lies below it: on a silver or chrome surface it gives a deep cold sheen, on a white base a light blue glow, on a dark color an almost imperceptible tint. You control the strength of the shade not by thinning but by the number of coats.
The typical place is the clear parts of a model: position lights, beacons, tail lights of vehicles and vision blocks that are meant to have a blue tint. It serves just as well for color shading under a gloss clear coat, where gradual layering gives the depth of the classic effect on car bodies. It also helps where you need to bring a metal surface gently into a cold tone.
The base has to be smooth and glossy, because every scratch or matte spot is emphasized under a clear coat. Choose the thinner meant for this range and keep to the thinning ratio stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. Stir the contents of the bottle before work. Apply several thin coats with pauses between them; one thick coat runs and leaves uneven streaks behind. Working with an airbrush gives a more even result than a brush, which tends to show its strokes.
The thinner, clear coat, brushes and airbrush are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The volume of the package is given on the packaging. Work in a well ventilated space.
