A transparent yellow from the Tamiya LP range, carried under the designation LP-69. A transparent shade does not cover but colors through: what is beneath it stays visible and takes on a color cast. The result therefore always depends on the base. On a clear part yellow glass arises, over a silver or chrome base a golden metal, and over a light paint only a warmer tone. Saturation cannot be made up for with one heavy coat, as it is governed by the number of thin coats.
Most often on clear parts and lights: outline and position lights, beacon covers and diffusers that carry a yellow filter. It will also serve well for tinting metal areas, for yellowing an old varnish and for fine-tuning shades that lack warmth. It is also used to color transparent parts through, where a covering paint would kill the translucency.
The base has to be smooth and glossy, as on a matte surface a transparent coat settles unevenly and goes gray. Mix the paint thoroughly before use. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's directions for this range. Lay it on with an airbrush in several weak coats and let the surface dry between them, as with a brush there is a risk that the strokes will stay visible as stripes of differing saturation. Try the strength of the shade out on an offcut first, because on the model a surplus can only be removed by sanding it down. With clear parts it is better to paint from the inner side, as the outer surface then stays smooth and glossy.
The paint alone is supplied. The model, thinner, brush and airbrush are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
