Dried salt on a hull, a deck or a chassis is imitated by Dried Salt from Lifecolor. The liquid pigment from the Liquid Pigments Washes range is laid on irregularly, by stippling and in broken strokes — salt never lies in a continuous layer.

This light Lifecolor liquid pigment from the Liquid Pigments Washes range imitates the deposits and dried traces of salt left on vehicles by the sea and on ships after seawater evaporates. The pigment is mixed into a carrier fluid and once dry it stays on the surface as a deposit that can be worked on further.
The commonest mistake here is evenness. After shaking thoroughly, take little on the brush and lay it on by stippling, by tapping with the tip and in broken strokes — never as a continuous coat. It works well to put more on one spot and draw the effect out from there, so that an edge forms like the trace of a dried drop.
Keep to the logic of the subject. Salt settles where water splashes and where it runs down: along waterlines, at drains, around deck openings and on lower edges. Light patches scattered senselessly over the whole model rather spoil the effect.
A wash brings out detail by flowing into recesses. Here the intention is the opposite — the pigment is meant to stay on the face and be seen as a deposit. That is why the excess is not wiped off across the area but only softened in places with a dry brush.
For modelers who build naval subjects or coastal scenes and want a specific rather than a general patina. The effect is strong, so it pays to start carefully and layer.
Keep out of the reach of children. Shake the contents thoroughly before every use and close the bottle after work. A light shade is very contrasty on a dark base — check the strength of the effect off the model.
