MASKING TAPE FOR CURVES 6MM

AK Interactive Masking Tape For Curves 6 mm

A masking tape from the manufacturer AK Interactive intended for airbrush spraying. Unlike ordinary straight tape it is flexible and stretchable - when led into a curve it stretches on the outer side and forms no waves or folded creases at the edge. A wrinkled edge is exactly what makes paint creep under ordinary tape and leaves the transition anything but clean. The width is 6 mm, the roll 18 m. The adhesive has a low, controlled tack and once removed leaves no residue and does not tear off the paint underneath.

Use

• Bounding gentle curves and large radii - rounded fuselages, the curved wing-to-fuselage transition, large-scale wavy camouflage patterns.
• Creating an edge for masking; the rest of the area is filled in with ordinary tape, film or paper.
• The tape can be cut with scissors or a modeling knife to the shape and width you need.
• Thanks to its strength it will also serve as a guide when engraving panel lines into plastic.

What to watch out for

Let us be honest: 6 mm is the widest variant of this range. The wider the tape, the larger the radius of a curve it can manage. Into a sharp curve - small windows, small cutouts, tight wavy patterns in a small scale - even the flexible 6 mm tape cannot be bent dependably and a narrower width has to be reached for. The six is therefore the choice for large areas and smooth transitions, not for fine detail.

Why not ordinary adhesive tape

Office or painters' tape has too aggressive an adhesive - once removed it tears off paint and primer alike and leaves a sticky film that then clings to your fingers and to further coats of clear. Its edge is moreover irregular and fuzzy, so paint creeps underneath. A modeling tape has a weaker and stable tack, a sharply cut edge and comes off without residue.

Who it is for

For modelers who spray with an airbrush and need to bound a curved transition of colors cleanly - aircraft camouflage, the rounded parts of vehicles, two-tone body finishes.

A modeling aid, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package. Take the tape off only once the paint has set and preferably at a slight angle away from you; to be safe always test the adhesion on an inconspicuous spot first.
