Models of equipment of this kind carry a great many flat panels, grilles, gratings, ladders and tie-down fittings that injection-molded plastic can render only in simplified form. Thin photo-etched sheet captures them at a scale-correct thickness and the model comes alive noticeably. The set is used as an addition to the base kit or as a replacement for its parts.
The designation MIM-104F corresponds to the PAC-3 configuration of the ground-based Patriot surface-to-air missile system. The system is made up of several interconnected elements: the launcher, the radar, the engagement control station and the power supply, all carried on wheeled chassis. Flatten the large flat photo-etched parts carefully first, so that no wave appears once they are glued. Cut close to the tab and dress the edge on a glass plate; make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or over a steel ruler. Degrease the metal with alcohol and lay down a thin primer. Dose the cyanoacrylate glue with a pin in small drops and work along long seams section by section. Gratings and grilles are worth painting separately and fitting only once the basic structure has been painted. Models of vehicles of this kind are usually a single color, so what lifts the model most is panel shading, a fine wash and edge highlighting.
