A set of aluminum plates in two widths, 5 mm and 10 mm, two of each. They serve as a rigid backing under abrasive paper in places where the main obstacle is the lack of room, not the size of the area to be sanded.
Most sanding boards fail where there is nowhere to put your hand. Typically that means the gap between parts that are already glued, the inside of a cockpit or a fighting compartment, the space between a wheel and its arch, the ribbing of engine cowlings or the surroundings of small protrusions that must not be sanded away. A narrow plate gets in where a wide one would foul, and it still holds the paper flat, so the surrounding area does not get a wave in it. The five-millimeter width suits joints and grooves, the ten-millimeter one small flat faces where a slightly larger bearing surface is already needed.
It will be appreciated by modelers who build with an interior, by builders of vehicles with dense surface detail and by everyone who, while finishing, has only the inaccessible places left.
