A palette for the American Civil War - the blue of the Union, the gray and browns of the Confederacy, flesh tones, leather and metals for soldiers and equipment of the years 1861 to 1865.
Responsibility details are not available.
The conflict the set covers had exceptionally colorful uniforms and at the same time very uneven supply. That is exactly why it is worth so much: in one package are the tones of both sides as well as the shades with which it can be expressed how long a soldier has already worn his uniform.
To the Union belong Oxford Blue for the dark tunic and Sky Blue for the trousers, with the transition between them made by Deep Sky Blue and Blue. The Southern side makes do with the shade Pale Greyblue for regulation gray and with Saddle Brown where home dyeing gave the cloth a nutty cast. Ger. Dark Green is left for rifle units and green trim.
The remaining group takes care of the details. Carmine Red and Flat Yellow will cover trim, facings and banners according to the branch of arms, Goldbrown brass buttons and buckles, Oily Steel barrels and bayonets. Faces are painted with Sunny Skintone with white and black, while Light Grey serves for dusty areas and the canvas of wagons.
These are acrylics thinnable with water, meant mainly for a brush and drying matte. A matte surface is an advantage on figures of this period, because it underlines the texture of wool and canvas instead of flooding it with gloss.
The assortment is built for infantry and cavalry, but it will serve just as well for artillery and transport, because wood, leather and metal all have their representatives in the palette.
