Finnish aircraft plywood has more and thinner plies than ordinary ply, with the grain crossed between them, so at a given thickness it holds its dimension, does not split when bent and carries considerably more load. Stocked are 4 mm in eight plies and 6 mm in twelve, in 500 × 500 and 500 × 1000 mm sheets.
It goes into formers, wing roots, motor mounts and undercarriage mountings, meaning every point where the load from the rest of the airframe is actually collected.
Cut plywood with a fine-toothed saw and support it from underneath so the last ply does not tear out, then true the edge with abrasive paper. It bonds with a slow-setting PVA or with two-part epoxy, both of which are among the adhesives. For lighter stock for sheeting and infill, carry on to the balsa sheet; strip and dowel are in the wooden profiles.
