Work on a self-healing cutting mat and draw the cut toward yourself, never toward the fingers of your other hand. Do not cut thicker material in one pass; score it several times and snap it. Change the blade before it stops cutting, as a dull blade slips, tears the material and is more dangerous than a sharp one. Put used blades into a closed container, not loose in the bin.
