Six lacquer shades for the equipment of the North Korean Air Force. Two grays cover the supersonic machines, three greens and one brownish shade serve on helicopters and on biplane transport aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North Korean Air Force is among the worst documented in the world, and that goes for its coats as well. It consists of two very different parts. The supersonic component is made up above all of MiG-29s and numerous MiG-21s, supplemented by Su-25 ground-attack aircraft, and those wear fairly simple gray schemes. The second part consists of machines intended for transport and airborne tasks: Mi-8 helicopters, American MD500 helicopters acquired by a roundabout route through third countries and above all a large fleet of Polish-built An-2 biplanes. Those fly in green and brownish coats meant to blend into the terrain in low flight.
The manufacturer's material is cautious with this set and with several shades admits outright that they could have been used on further types as well. That is honest and a modeler should take it into account: the photographic documentation is limited and the color layout differs from machine to machine.
The green tones find use outside this particular country too, because a whole range of armies operating equipment of Soviet design wore similar terrain schemes.
When building it pays to keep the coat sober. Machines in this region do not fly many hours a year, so heavy wear is not usually visible on them and exaggerated weathering would push the result away from the real subject.
