A set of six Hataka shades for postwar and modern aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm. It contains Extra Dark Sea Grey, Sky, Anti-Flash White, Medium Sea Grey, Barley Grey and Dark Sea Grey.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fleet Air Arm is the air component of the Royal Navy, and after 1945 its aircraft wore an unmistakable combination of dark sea gray on the upper surfaces and light Sky underneath. That very signature forms the core of this group of six shades, put together as the first volume of the subject.
Extra Dark Sea Grey covered the backs of the Sea Fury, the Sea Hawk and the Sea Vixen, while Sky belonged to the undersides and in many cases to a band around the rear fuselage as well. Medium Sea Grey and Dark Sea Grey widen the palette with the milder tones used on fuselages and rudders, so two-tone schemes can be built up too. Anti-Flash White refers to the period when aircraft with a nuclear role were painted white all over in order to reflect the flash of light. Camouflage Grey, also known as Barley Grey, moves the set into the newer era of low-visibility finishes, in which the national insignia fade into the background.
The range of shades covers the piston fighters of the end of the war, the jets of the fifties and later carrier aircraft. The same subject was released at the same time in three of the chemical lines of the manufacturer, so you can choose according to the binder you are used to.
These are paints intended primarily for the airbrush. Always follow the thinner from the same line, because the acrylic and the lacquer version of one and the same shade will not take the same thinning. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use; the fine gray pigments settle to the bottom quickly and the shade would come out thinner than it should be.
